B.E. Environmental Engineering, 2025, Stevens

My Story
Growing up in NJ near Sandy Hook and Hartshorne Woods Park meant I was surrounded by nature year-round whether it be kayaking, hiking, and surfing in the summer or taking my dogs to the beach in the winter. I loved growing up so immersed in the outdoors and it pushed me towards a career in a related field. Experiencing the devastation of Hurricane Sandy in my hometown solidified my passion for Coastal Engineering and highlighted the importance of coastal resilience.

I earned my Bachelor’s degree from Stevens Institute of Technology in Environmental Engineering in 2025. I began working with the Coastal Engineering Research Group as an undergraduate research assistant starting the summer after freshman year which is when I realized this was the field for me! I never imagined I could combine engineering with working at the beach until I began working with Dr. Miller and the research group. Continuing to work with Dr. Miller throughout my undergrad allowed me to participate in field work across NJ as well as sparked my interest in coastal remote sensing.

In 2023, I was honored to receive the DOD SMART Scholarship, which has supported both my undergraduate and master’s degrees while also giving me the chance to intern the past two summers at the USACE-ERDC Field Research Facility in Duck, NC. Working with Dr. Brittany Bruder and the CorpsCam team there has only deepened my passion for Coastal Engineering, and I cannot wait to bring those experiences into my master’s work.

I am eager to begin my master’s degree in Coastal Engineering to dive deeper into research and continue to work with and learn from the entire CERG team.
