My Story
Growing up near the Jersey Shore, I developed an early awareness of both the beauty and the power of the ocean. The aftermath of Hurricane Sandy left a lasting impression on me, the image of the Star Jet roller coaster sitting in the Atlantic Ocean is seared into my memory. Walking through my neighborhood afterward, seeing downed powerlines and trees, I became fascinated by how natural disasters can reshape entire communities. That early experience sparked my interest in coastal hazards and the engineering solutions that help communities withstand them.

I pursued my undergraduate degrees at Drexel University, where I earned my Bachelor of Science in Civil and Environmental Engineering. Drexel’s co-operative education program allowed me to explore different paths and ultimately discover my passion for coastal engineering. During my third co-op at Mott MacDonald, I worked under the mentorship of certified wetland scientist Jane Rowan and collaborated with coastal engineers on projects examining dredging impacts on estuarine water quality. I analyzed environmental data, prepared reports, and strengthened my understanding of the complex factors influencing coastal systems. This experience, along with mentorship from professionals in the field, confirmed that pursuing graduate study in ocean engineering was the right path for me.

I am excited to begin my master’s degree in Ocean Engineering at Stevens Institute of Technology, where I will be contributing to the research being conducted in the Coastal Engineering Research Group. I look forward to gaining new research experiences and contributing to efforts that improve resilience for coastal communities.
